Online talk, with a live stream on Facebook: Jim Thompson Art Center
2:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Is our identity an enduring specification inherently tied to nationality or ethnicity? Is the notion of displacement always associated with transition between different locations?
.
Joining us in this conversation are two talented artists: Tsao Liang-Pin from Taiwan and Hikaru Fujii from Japan. Through their artworks, Becoming Taiwanese: As Ritual and Mujō (The Heartless), which are currently on display in Gallery Two of the Jim Thompson Art Center for the Nomadic exhibition, they will share their research and provide profound insights. These works engage in dialogues about the historical context of Japanese colonial Taiwan and critique the notion of communal identity as a politically imposed construct. Moreover, they raise the notion that one's identity can be imposed and transformed without physical relocation or migration.
.
Conduct in English and moderated by the exhibition curator Dr. Vennes Cheng, this online conversation is part of the public program of the exhibition Nomadic.
